An Important Message about changes in Snow/Cold day policy including 2 hour delays

Dear Montessori Families:

In the past Montessori Regional Charter School has resisted calling a 2 hour delay during inclement weather as we serve 9 different school districts (with diverse policies) and, more importantly, we think that 2 hour delays can be difficult for our working families to manage. However, during the last two winters we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of dangerously cold days in the Erie region and we are concerned about the number of days our students are losing.

Therefore, effective immediately, we are changing our policy and procedure as follows:

  • When the temperature (with wind chill) is less than – 15°, we will place the school on a 2 hour delay.
    • This means that buses – including MRCS students that live in the city of Erie - will pick up students 2 hours later than normal at the regular stops.
    • Our regular carpool hours will be 2 hours later:
      • North Campus             9:45 am – 10:10 am
      • South Campus            10:00 am – 10:25 am
    • Lunch, after school activities and after school care will remain on the regular schedule.
  • During inclement weather please begin checking closings and delays after 5:15 am.
    • Closing/delay decisions will likely be announced in the morning. Please be sure that your contact numbers are up to date to receive Broadcast calls or check your local TV stations.

  • During 2 hour delays - the school will be fully staffed and open at 7:45 am (North)
    and 8:00 am (South).
  • Families may drop off their students any time after the above listed times for childcare from the opening of school to the delayed start time at 10:30 am.  This service will be provided at no charge.

This policy is effective immediately – Monday, February 23, 2015.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at

Thank you for your support of Montessori Regional Charter School.
