The annual Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is a standards-based, criterion-referenced assessment used to measure a student's attainment of the academic standards while also determining the degree to which school programs enable students to attain proficiency of the standards. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 3 through 8 and grade 11 is assessed in reading and math. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 5, 8 and 11 is assessed in writing. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 4, 8 and 11 is assessed in science.
Individual student scores, provided only to their respective schools, can be used to assist teachers in identifying students who may be in need of additional educational opportunities, and school scores provide information to schools and districts for curriculum and instruction improvement discussions and planning.
PSSA Schedule and Preparation Information
Montessori Regional Charter School will be administering the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) to students in Grade 3 through Grade 6 on the following schedule:

Dates for testing will generally be held in March, April, and early May. Testing dates will be posted on the School Calendar.
In order to prepare your child for the PSSA, we encourage you to consider the following:
- Keep a positive attitude about the tests; encourage your child to do their best
- Make sure that you child gets up early enough so that he/she will be on time for school and ready to begin in a calm, organized manner
- ATTENDANCE on test days is very important; there are limited days available to make up tests
- Make sure your child gets enough sleep on the nights before each test
- Ensure that your child eats a healthy breakfast: Avoid heavy food that may make him/her groggy or high sugar foods that may make him/her hyperactive or nervous
